INTRODUCTION

This badminton tournament, which is going to be held similar to the format of the Thomas and Uber Cup, will be gathering all the representative players from all government and private universities and colleges with an objective to create a conducive environment for engineering new talents in local badminton arena.
The first MMU Asean Varsity Badminton Cup, previously named as Chancellor Siti Hasmah Challenge Cup 2002 was held on the 11th to 13th of January 2002 organized by Multimedia University Badminton Club (Cyberjaya). Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was the winner of the tournament whereas Universiti Malaya (UM) became the 1st runner-up. The following year, UPM proved its supreme power and defended the challenge cup successfully. At 2004, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) had an edge over UPM and clinched the title from UPM. In year 2007, University of Malaya had finally become the champion of this tournament.
Started from year 2010, we have changed the event name into MMU Chancellor Challenge Cup. In addition, we were honored to invite Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah bt. Mohd Ali as the patron of MMU Chancellor Challenge Cup 2010. The champion of the year was Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and UPM was the 1st runner-up. In year 2012, we remain the event name as MMU Chancellor Challenge Cup 2012 and this time we co-operate with MBA (Melaka Badminton Association) to make this event a professional and a grand one. Additionally, this tournament managed to attract a total number of 22 teams from universities of Malaysia.
In year 2014, Multimedia University Badminton Club (Melaka) is decided to bring this event to a new level, where we also decided to change the event name into MMU Asean Varsity Badminton Cup. We decide to invite those universities from South East Asia region such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam and so on. Additionally, we also hope that this tournament may become one of the prestigious university level’s events.

In order to make this event successful, we plan to co-operate with Masiswa and also Ministry Of Youth and Sports Malaysia. For this intervarsity event, we hope we manage to attract 32 teams to participate where 24 teams from local universities and 8 teams from overseas universities. Besides that, in order to make this event a successful one, we are kindly pleaded to get some financial aid from all of our potential sponsor company. Moreover, in order to attract more Universities we decided to collaborate with Minister of Tourism by organizing some trip “sambil jalan sambil main”. So it will be more fun for those outstation player, they will not only act as a player to participate in this tournament but also able to visit Melaka as a tourist.
