RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Participation
1.1. For team based category, each university is allowed to send more than one team
one of the respective universities.
1.2. The participation of the tournament is based on first come first serve basis.
1.3. Each player is allowed to represent his/her own university only.
2. Participant and entry forms
2.1. For team-based category, each team shall consist of a minimum number of 8
players to a maximum number of 12 players inclusive of 4 reserve players.
2.2. A team should have a minimum number of 4 males and 4 females.
2.3. Participation is only eligible for full-time student.
2.4. The Organizing Committee has the right to request for the Student Card and Official
Student Verification Letter by University from a participant for verification purposes.
3. Competition format
3.1. Matches before the quarter finals will be played based on round robin system.
3.2. From the quarter final rounds onwards (depends on how many teams participate),
the matches will be played based on a knock-out system.
3.3. Each player is allowed to play in one match per tie only.
3.4. During round robin system, each team has to play all five matches.
3.5. From quarter final rounds onwards, each team will has to play best of 3 out of 5
games.
4. Order of play
4.1. The team event category shall be played in the following order:
4.1.1. 1st Match: Mixed Doubles
4.1.2. 2nd Match: Women’s Singles
4.1.3. 3rd Match: Men’s Singles
4.1.4. 4th Match: Women’s Doubles
4.1.5. 5th Match: Men’s Doubles
4.2. The Honorary Referee shall have the right to alter order of play (if necessary).
5. Line-up of players
5.1. The participating team shall submit its line-up of players to the Honorary Referee at
least 30 minutes before each tie begins.
5.2. Unless there are any unforeseen circumstances or else, any excuses or reasons will
not be entertained.
6. Grouping Draws
6.1. The organizing committee will make the draws in the presence of all the team
managers at a meeting.
6.2. The date of the meeting will be on 3rd April 2014, 10.00 am.
7. Disqualification
7.1. A team that fails to report to the Honorary Referee 45 minutes before the tie is
scheduled to be played shall be disqualified
7.2. The Referee shall have the power to disqualify at any team of the competition if any
team which has failed to carry out its obligation or breaches the rules and
regulations of the BWF.
7.3. The Organizers have the right to disqualify any players who fail to adhere to the
rules & regulations above.
8. Withdrawals & Walkover
8.1. Players who failed to be at the court within 10 minutes after announcement from
Honorary Desk will be considered as walkover.
8.2. As a result, 1 point will be awarded to the opponent.
8.3. Each team must finish their matches and are prohibited from purposely forfeiting a
match to the opponent currently in play or yet to be played.
8.4. Each team has to continue playing even if the athlete has qualified for the next
round.
8.5. In the case of an injury before a match which results in a walkover, the injured
player must get verification from a doctor from any private or local clinics or
medical officers on duty hired by the Organizing Committee.
9. Delays
9.1. The Organizing Committee has the right to delay or reschedule a match without
prior notification.
10. Appeals
10.1. The Court Official’s (Umpire / services judges / line judges) decisions on all
points of fact shall be final.
10.2. Players may appeal to the Hon. Referee on matters pertaining to points of
laws only, and his/ her decisions on all points of laws shall be final.
10.3. The Organizers have the right to change the rules & regulations and prizes
above without prior notice.
11. Brand of shuttlecocks
11.1. The brand of shuttlecocks to be used will be Fleet, model 2002.
12. Law of Badminton
12.1. This varsity event will use the best of three games scoring system
12.2. We will completely follow the rules and regulations, which were set by BWF
(Badminton World Federation).
12.3. The MBA (Melaka Badminton Association) will help the organizing
committees in terms of the technicalities of the tournament.
13. Groups for successive competitions
13.1. The participating teams will be ranked based on the overall strength of the team
13.2. The overall strength teams will be ranked based on the previous MMU
Chancellor Challenge Cup Championed University.
14. Welcoming & Closing Ceremony
14.1. All players from various Universities are required to attend the welcoming
dinner.
14.2. All players from various Universities are required to attend the closing
ceremony.
15. Protests
15.1. Protests have to be in written form and only officers/officials from the
institution are allowed to make a protest.
15.2. Protests are to be submitted within 20 minutes after the official
announcement of results of a match together with a processing fee of RM500.00
(Ringgit Malaysia Five Hundred Only). The fees will not be refunded if the protest is
deemed invalid
15.3. All protest must be attached with proof of the subject of protest.
15.4. In the case that the protest or appeal is accepted by the Organizing
Committee, the fee of RM500.00 will be refunded.
15.5. The decision of the Protest and Appeals Committee is final
16. Compensation
16.1. The Organising Committee has the right to claim for compensation from the
players/teams in the case of any damages caused by players/teams.
17. Disclaimer
17.1. The Organizers shall not be held responsible or liable for any loss of personal
belongings, injuries, death, medical expenses incurred during or after the
tournament.
17.2. The Organizers have the right to change the rules & regulations and prizes
above without prior notice.
18. Players Dress Code And Equipment
18.1. Players are not allowed to wear or use any equipment that may endanger
other players.
18.2. The attire and equipment used shall correspond to the rules and regulations
from the BWF.
